Kai Trump resumes training after wrist surgery ahead of University of Miami freshman season

Kai Trump, the 17-year-old granddaughter of U.S. President Donald Trump, has returned to gym training months after undergoing left wrist surgery, as she prepares for her freshman season with the University of Miami women's golf team.

Trump verbally committed to the Hurricanes in June 2024.^[1][2] The program competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), where the 2024-25 season featured competition across fall and spring events leading to NCAA regionals and nationals.

On Instagram Stories, Trump shared a video of herself performing box squats in the gym, captioning it "We’re so back" and tagging her coach, Alex Paup. The post signals her progress in rehabilitation.

In January 2025, Trump announced she had undergone surgery at the Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute, performed by Dr. Thomas Graham, chief of Jefferson Orthopedics, to repair injuries to the stabilizing tissues of her ECU tendon and damage to her fibrocartilage complex. She stated the procedure would allow her to play "pain free."^[3]

The announcement followed her participation in The Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, in November 2024, an LPGA Tour event that included junior competitors.^[4] Trump has expressed ambitions to turn professional after college, citing Miami as key to gaining experience.^[2]

Trump, who turns 18 in May 2025, plays out of Trump Golf locations in Florida and has competed in American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events and other junior tournaments.
