The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired veteran quarterback Andy Dalton from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick.[1][2]
Dalton, 37, spent the past two seasons with the Panthers after signing as a free agent in March 2023.[1][2] The former TCU standout has 15 NFL seasons of experience, primarily as a starter earlier in his career.
In 2024, Dalton started five games for Carolina under first-year head coach Dave Canales, posting a 1-4 record while backing up 2023 first overall draft pick Bryce Young.[1][3] He completed 115 of 180 passes for 1,166 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions in those appearances.[1]
Dalton spent nine seasons (2011-2019) as the starting quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, where he went 70-53-2 in the regular season across 125 games with 82 starts.[1][2] The Bengals made the playoffs in four straight years from 2011 to 2014 during his tenure, though they did not win a postseason game.
Following a midseason trade to the Dallas Cowboys in October 2020, Dalton made five starts that year (2-3 record).[1] He signed with the Chicago Bears in March 2021, starting five games (1-4 record).[1] In 2022, he joined the New Orleans Saints and started five games (2-3 record).[1]
The move provides depth behind starting quarterback Jalen Hurts for Philadelphia. Tanner McKee served as Hurts' primary backup during the 2024 preseason and saw regular-season action, including a start in Week 7.[2][4]
The Eagles enter the 2026 season with Hurts, who has started every game when healthy since becoming the full-time starter in 2021.[2]
